Problem Prevention

Proactive Initiatives to Neutralize Problems or Establish Contingency Plans

Preventing future problems means that all changes or decisions are implemented with awareness and planning. The ability to see problems and do something about them is the sign of an organization that is proactive instead of reactive. Problem Prevention gives participants a methodical approach to identify future problems that have the greatest probability of occurring and the greatest impact on the organization if they do occur. It provides a process to identify, prevent and/or plan contingent action in anticipation of future problems.

Once the cause of a problem has been identified and a "fix" is determined, the fix or solution must be implemented. Unless you have implemented this "fix" many times before, potential problems are waiting to occur. Potential problems are largely related to new process, procedure, or product. Problem Prevention gives us the tools to successfully implement the solution to a problem.

All companies experience change. We expect the change to improve something we are currently doing. To maximize our efforts it makes sense to protect the implementation of this change. Problem Prevention gives us the tools to protect the change. Problem Prevention is a "heads up" approach. It forces a company or department to be proactive instead of reactive. Used as a regular part of process thinking it improves the ultimate effectiveness of an organization.

At the conclusion of the Problem Prevention Workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Distinguish between preventive and contingent action.
  • Think beyond the "immediate."
  • Practice a proactive instead of a reactive mindset.
  • Prioritize and protect against high impact potential problems.
  • Protect against the catastrophe.
  • Eliminate chaos and confusion.
  • Implement change with confidence and success.
  • Apply the process to a current decision or change effort that needs to be planned for and implemented.
