Skilled Trades Supervisor seeks coaching by Everest to enhance skills in Assertive Communication and Thought Leadership

Page, Arizona, May 2007. Navajo Generating Station (NGS) serves electric customers in Arizona, Nevada and California. The station also supplies energy to pump water through the Central Arizona Project contracted with Everest Training & Coaching as a business coach to help the supervisor of a skilled trades group be more effective in communicating and motivating the team of seasoned electricians.

"Brian's challenge is to manage a group of highly skilled electricians that impact all operations at the Station" said Station Manager Shayne Jones. "In a sense it is remote supervision assignment because of the vastness of the site, Brian needs to be confident that his team members are completing the work orders in a timely and cost effective manner." "I have attended several supervisor training seminars and while the ideas were good, they seemed mostly geared for a physically close supervisory environment. I need to treat team members more collegially and present more of a Theory Y managerial approach that Theory X" said Brian Mabey, Electrical Supervisor. "Ed's coaching suggestions have complemented the coaching / counseling training provided by the Station and it has been a good reminder yet also offered some new and different approachs that I feel has helped me be more of a situational manager."
